Your health plan (or insurance provider) gives you the right to appeal the denial of a claim by your insurer. Sometimes, insurance claims are denied because a treatment is not considered to be “medically necessary” or because the insurance plan doesn't cover a procedure. However, if you're still having reimbursement issues with a particular insurance company, contact your state's insurance commissioner's office for assistance. Insured patients follow the advice of their doctors, only to have their claims denied by insurance company officials.
If you think your insurer is not cooperating with the appeal process, contact your state's Department of Insurance.
